Ben Barker first identified with sculpture as a young man and it has remained an enduring passion throughout his life. Sculptors he particularly admires are Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, Jean Arp, Jacob Epstein, Constantin Brancusi, Jacques Lipchitz and Alberto Giacometti but to name a few.

The inspiration for Ben's sculpture focuses on the natural world, the human form and conceptual ideas and is carved in wood or stone, or cast in bronze or aluminium. Ben enjoys the foundry environment, casts and finishes his own work in order to allow critical decisions relating to form to remain within his control. He makes only a few pieces each year and exhibits occasionally. Commissions are undertaken for individual pieces, awards and environmental work.

Ben is a member of the Surrey Sculpture Society.
